  • Osteopathy

Osteopathy is recognised to treat a variety of medical conditions including generalised aches and pains, arthritis, neckache, backache and sciatica. Pain from other joints and conditions may also be treated (please see our comprehensive list below). Osteopaths improve the body’s function by working on the joints, muscles and ligaments to stimulate blood flow for oxygenation and repair and modulating the effects of the nervous system, enabling a reduction in pain.
  • Sports Massage

Sports Massage benefits include a decrease in muscle tension through stretching muscle fibres, stimulating circulation providing oxygen and nutrients which allow the immune system to repair sporting, postural or work injuries. Sports Massage aids the reduction of inflammation therefore reducing soreness and allowing a faster recovery. It assists in the removal of waste products within overused or damaged tissues through stimulation of the venous and lymphatic systems, thus aiding the healing process.
  • Medical Acupuncture

Medical Acupuncture can help with the following: tennis elbow, low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, tension type headaches, migraines, Temporomandibular (Jaw) pain and leg and calf pain. The positive effects of Medical Acupuncture are considered to include pain relief or analgesia both locally and via the brainstem, which allows a more lasting relief from pain and the promotion of healing through the enlargement of local blood vessels which supply the muscles with nutrients for repair. The function of the muscle is considered to improve due to a reduction in pain, allowing the individual to then undertake their rehab correctly, speeding up healing time. The ‘feel good’ chemical serotonin is commonly released as a result of medical acupuncture, which enhances the reduction of pain perception. As pain is reduced it allows an increase in range of motion and flexibility, which may reduce the likelihood of future injury.
  • Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology Taping (KT) helps reduce the body’s natural response to inflammation and therefore reduces pain. KT affects different receptors within the body, acting to reduce pain and encourage the lymphatic system to drain waste products through microscopically lifting the skin. Skin is compressed when muscle or soft tissue is inflamed from micro-trauma, the lifting of skin reduces the compression of nerve endings, blood vessels and the lymph system. Increased pressure within the soft tissues activates nociceptive nerve endings, which leads to the sensation of pain. KT has been clinically shown to reduce pain and support the natural process of repair; it also acts to support the muscle, reducing muscular fatigue and cramping, allowing you to return to your normal activities sooner. At Williams Osteopathy, we use the brand RockTape for KT as it is clinically proven to support the joints, allowing the muscles to still function, speeding up the repair process.
